Five Cards Announced
Bellator already has five cards announced for 2023, three of them in California, one in Ireland and one in France. Bellator 290, on February 4th, will have the probable farewell fight of legend and heavyweight (up to 120kg) Fedor Emelianenko, who will face champion Ryan Bader for the weight belt. Brazilian and welterweight (under 77kg) Neiman Gracie fights on the same card and faces Dante Schiro.
On February 25, at Bellator 291, in Dublin, the Ukrainian welterweight champion Yaroslav Amosov defends his title against the American Logan Storley. On March 10, the organization's long-awaited lightweight GP (up to 70 kg) begins, and Russian champion Usman Nurmagomedov duels Benson Henderson in the main event of Bellator 292. For the same tournament, Tofiq Musayev faces Alexander Shabliy. Brazilians Leandoro Higo, Bruna Ellen and Wladmir Blanka are scheduled on the same card.
On March 31, Bellator 293 will feature a heavyweight duel (up to 120kg) between Brazilian Marcelo Golm and American Daniel James. The co-main event, at featherweight (up to 66kg), will see Cat Zingano x Leah McCourt.
On May 12th, Bellator returns to Paris. In the French capital, former middleweight champion (under 84kg) Gegard Mousasi faces England's Fabian Edwards - brother of UFC welterweight champion Leon Edwards. Brazilian and former welterweight champion Douglas Lima faces Dutchman Costello van Steenis at middleweight.
Main Brazilian Stars
Brazil's main name in Bellator is Cris Cyborg. Champion of all the main MMA events in the world, she debuted in the organization in January 2020 and knocked out the then featherweight champion (up to 66kg) Julia Budd to keep the title. She then made four successful saves, beating Arlene Blencowe (twice), Leslie Smith and Sinead Kavanagh.
The Pitbull brothers are other stars of the company, where they have been since 2010. Patrício Pitbull is the current featherweight champion (up to 66kg) and has been a lightweight champion as well - he was champion of both categories at the same time. He is considered the greatest wrestler in the organization's history. A year older, Patricky was lightweight champion (up to 70kg) last year, but in November he lost the title to Usman Nurmagomedov in the judges' decision.
Juliana Velasquez won the flyweight belt (up to 56kg) in 2020, when she beat Ilima-Lei Macfarlane. She even successfully defended the title against Denise Kielholtz. Then, in April 2022, she lost to Liz Carmouche in a controversial result. In the rematch, in December, she was submitted and lost the chance to regain the title.
In the welterweight division (up to 77kg), carrying one of the most respected last names in the fight world, Neiman Gracie is also in the top 10 in the category. Since 2016 at Bellator, in 2019 he even disputed the title, but lost to then champion Rory MacDonald. In the same category, Douglas Lima has been the champion on some occasions, between victories and defeats in title fights. He has been in Bellator since 2011.
